Surface Activation of Wax-Based Additives to Enhance Asphalt Rheological Properties via Rotating Plasma Treatment

Wax-based additives have been widely used in asphalt pavement for their preferable environmental benefits. However, poor compatibility between wax-based warm mix and easily leads to precipitation of wax cracking pavement. Plasma treatment can effectively modify the surface various materials. This study applies plasma improve properties improvement binder. Compatibility two different wax-base binder before after is investigated via cigar tube test morphology test. In parallel, rheological wax-modified are characterized from perspectives rotational viscosity, rutting resistance, fatigue performance. Results show enhanced roughness chemical activity treatment. The adhesion waxes matrix significantly improved. Waxes within uniformly dispersed incorporation activated helps promote viscosity reduction Furthermore, high-temperature performance activation improved, especially fatty acid amide waxes.
